“Onamae.com” strengthens its system for handling reports of domain misuse ～Toward realizing a safe and secure Internet environment～

“Onamae.com,” the domain registration service provided by GMO Internet, Inc. (President and CEO: Tadashi Ito; hereinafter “GMO Internet”), a member of GMO Internet Group, has established a reporting contact point and has been responding to cases of domain and website misuse such as phishing scams (※1) and spam emails (※2). However, in light of the increasing severity of cyberattacks in recent years and the growing importance of trust in the Internet society, we have decided to once again broadly inform users about the existence and usage of the [Misuse Reporting Contact Point] in order to more clearly fulfill our social responsibility to provide a safe and secure Internet environment for all users.

(※1) Phishing is a method of impersonating legitimate services or companies to lure users to fake websites via fraudulent emails or SMS, with the aim of stealing IDs, passwords, credit card information, and other sensitive data. In recent years, damages such as unauthorized use of credit cards and various services have been increasing.
(※2) Spam emails refer to unsolicited and unwanted bulk emails that are sent unilaterally to recipients without their consent.

【About the Misuse Reporting Contact Point】

As one of the largest domain registration services in Japan, we have supported our customers’ online presence through our domain registration and sales (domain registrar) business, as well as our cloud and rental server (hosting) services.
In recent years, with the rapid increase in websites and online services launched daily by both individuals and corporations, the overall volume of information on the Internet has grown, along with rising risks such as phishing sites and spam emails caused by malicious content. In response to this situation, we are strengthening our efforts to raise awareness of the “Misuse Reporting Contact Point,” which accepts reports regarding domains suspected of misuse.

【Handling of Misuse】

We carefully review all reports of misuse submitted through the dedicated contact point and take appropriate actions, including investigating the relevant domains and websites and implementing necessary restrictions. In addition, for domains not managed by us, we actively collaborate not only within GMO Internet Group but also with external businesses to address misuse.
