((*1) EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) refers to a security solution that detects, analyzes, and responds to threats on endpoints such as PCs and servers in real time.
(*2) SOC (Security Operation Center) refers to an organization or facility dedicated to security monitoring, analysis, and response.
[Background of the Service]
As generative AI development accelerates, computing infrastructure is increasingly positioned as infrastructure handling critical corporate assets. At the same time, attacks targeting externally exposed AI services and components are on the rise, creating demand for measures against risks such as unauthorized use of computing resources and data exfiltration.
The "Managed HPC Cluster" service of "GMO GPU Cloud" has provided a pre-built and optimized Slurm environment (*3) on a managed basis, helping customers focus on AI development. At the same time, demand has grown for endpoint-level security monitoring and analysis when handling sensitive data and proprietary models. To meet this need, GMO Internet has incorporated EDR-based monitoring as a standard feature of the "Managed HPC Cluster" service, in collaboration with the SOC service of GMO Cybersecurity by Ierae, which operates the cybersecurity business.
(*3) A Slurm (Slurm Workload Manager) environment is an open-source job scheduler for HPC clusters that automates the allocation and management of computing jobs across multiple nodes.
[Service Overview and Key Features]
The "Managed HPC Cluster" service of "GMO GPU Cloud" provides the following security monitoring and analysis capabilities as standard. None require additional configuration or operation by the customer, and all are active from the start of service use.
・Standard EDR deployment: EDR for endpoint protection and detection is pre-installed on each GPU node, providing visibility into suspicious behavior. Detection policies and other security settings are configured based on recommendations from GMO Cybersecurity by Ierae, ensuring protection backed by specialized expertise.
・24/7 SOC monitoring: The SOC of GMO Cybersecurity by Ierae collects and monitors EDR logs and alerts around the clock, every day of the year.
・High-precision detection through smart log analysis: Using "SOLOBAN" (Security Operation by Logic Based Analysis Engine), a log analysis platform independently developed by GMO Cybersecurity by Ierae, attacks are analyzed based on the MITRE ATT&CK® framework. Self-learning logic suppresses false positives and over-detection while assessing the progression of an attack, with findings reported according to risk level.
・Threat hunting by specialized analysts: For threats that are difficult to assess mechanically, dedicated security analysts proactively conduct deep-dive analysis to uncover and report on emerging threats.
Leveraging the information collected and analyzed through this framework, in the event unauthorized access or related indicators are detected, GMO Internet will promptly take appropriate action—such as identifying the scope of impact, containment, and customer notification—guided by the expertise and incident response direction of specialized analysts at GMO Cybersecurity by Ierae.
[Future Outlook]
"GMO GPU Cloud" will continue to go beyond simply providing computing resources, advancing the development of an environment where customers can pursue AI development and operations with confidence. Building on this collaboration with GMO Cybersecurity by Ierae, GMO Internet will expand its service lineup by leveraging the Group's cybersecurity expertise, aiming to achieve a high level of performance, convenience, and security in computing infrastructure simultaneously. As a domestic infrastructure provider essential to Japan's AI industry, GMO Internet will continue to contribute to AI innovation across society and industry.
