GMO Internet Group Wins Contract for JGSDF’s Quadruped Security Robot Verification Project ~ Synergizing 4 Group Companies and Future Robot to Pioneer the Future of Base Security via Domestic Quadrupedal Robots ~

Based on the corporate catchphrase "Internet for Everyone," GMO Internet Group, Inc. (Representative Director and Group CEO: Masatoshi Kumagai), which operates the internet infrastructure business, has been awarded the contract for the "Verification Services for the Implementation of Security Robot (Quadrupedal) Systems" promoted by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF).

In this project, four GMO Internet Group companies(*1) and Future Robot Co., Ltd. (Representative: Kazutaka Saito; hereinafter "Future Robot"), which is responsible for domestic robot development, will unite as one to comprehensively drive everything from the design and development to the implementation verification of domestic quadrupedal robots that integrate AI and robotic technologies. Verifications will be conducted at garrisons nationwide, with the goal of achieving both labor savings and a 24-hour security infrastructure.

(*1) GMO Internet Group, Inc., GMO Internet, Inc., GMO Cybersecurity by Isolate, Inc., and GMO AI & Robotics Trading Co., Ltd.

[Background of the Contract]

The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) is currently developing a remote security system powered by AI technology to reduce manpower and improve the effectiveness of garrison security. As part of this initiative, a project was planned to verify the implementation of an autonomous patrol system utilizing quadrupedal robots.

This contract represents a large-scale project spanning a wide range of specialized fields, including robot planning and development, communication infrastructure building, cybersecurity safety verification, robot quality assurance, and overall project management. GMO Internet Group will undertake this project as a unified team by combining the comprehensive strengths of its group companies in internet infrastructure, security, and AI/robotics with the development capabilities of Future Robot Co., Ltd., which possesses a distinct strength in domestic robotic technology. This organizational structure will ensure consistent quality control and rapid problem-solving from development through to operational execution.

[Overview of Services]

In this project, we will design and develop a new domestic quadrupedal security robot, while progressively conducting implementation verifications under diverse environments at multiple garrisons nationwide. In addition to performance verification in real-world environments—including paved, unpaved, and cold regions—we will perform safety verifications from a cybersecurity perspective. Ultimately, we will compile the results and conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the system’s performance, safety, and operational viability for practical deployment.

[Project Promotion Structure]

# In this project, the specialized expertise of each company is interconnected across disciplines, with all five companies working as one unit to drive every phase from development to on-site verification.

Participating CompanyArea of Expertise
GMO Internet Group, Inc.Project coordination and overall management
GMO Internet, Inc.Communications infrastructure and network technology
GMO Cybersecurity by Ierae, Inc.Security testing and mitigation proposals
GMO AI & Robotics Commerce, Inc.Robot quality management
Mirai Robot Inc.Planning, design, and development of domestically produced quadruped robots

[Future Outlook]

The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force operates approximately 160 bases and garrison facilities nationwide, representing an enormous potential for remote security systems. Through this implementation trial, we will build the technical knowledge needed to realize a future in which domestically developed AI-equipped quadruped robots autonomously patrol bases and support around-the-clock, year-round security operations.
